Whitfield Estate
Nestled in the depths of West Allen Valley of the North Pennines, Whitfield Estate has been owned by the Blackett-Ord family for over 250 years, having only changed hands once since 1167. With sprawling pine-clad forests and glistening riverside scenery, clean country air and stunning panoramic views are part and parcel of everyday life here.
Imagine having your very own holiday home surrounded by some of the most beautiful, undisturbed landscape in England – with our brand-new holiday lodge development, now you can.
Parmontley Hall offers an escape that combines the style of comfort of a luxury retreat with the warmest of country welcomes.
The Elk's Head
A charming, traditional country pub within the boundaries of Whitfield Estate and settled along the River Allen, the Elk’s Head offers gorgeous views and hearty, homemade food with a wide selection of ales, beers and spirits, making it a long-time favourite amongst the locals.
With all the usual pub favourites adorning the menu, as well as fresh game, fish and steaks being made fresh daily, you’re sure to find a firm favourite that you’ll return to again and again.
Live Shooting & Sport
With its steep banks, dense woods and windswept moorland, Whitfield Estate offers one of the finest shoots in the North East by providing some of the highest gamebird shooting in the UK. The ethos here is quality over quantity and we specialise in providing challenging birds and shoots within the deep river gorges and lowland valleys that surround us.
Catering to all walks of life, you’re guaranteed to have a great time whether you’re a seasoned shooter or beginner – there’s even an annual Clay Shoot too if that’s more up your street! No matter your choice, check out a review in Living North here and see if you fancy a go!
Birdwatcher's Paradise
The diverse landscape that encircles our holiday lodge development boasts a unique and vibrant ecosystem which hosts some of the rarest native wildlife in Britain, resulting in a birding dream destination.
We've won the David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award consistently over the past decade and we’re proud to say that many endangered species have found a safe haven in the surrounding woodlands here.
These include everything from endangered red squirrels and otters, to curlews, oystercatchers and the rare black grouse – not to mention the annual arrival of countless seasonal species and wading birds who nest nearby. See if you can spot them all!
Allendale
A friendly, beautiful stone-built village in the heart of the Allen Valleys, Allendale is just a 10-minute drive away from Parmontley Hall and it’s come as no surprise to us that it made the 2019 cut and has been voted one of the best places to live in the UK!
The vibrant community here has a lot to offer despite its small size: a local brewery, plenty of traditional village pubs, cafes and shops, as well as popular annual events such as the Folk Festival and the May Fair – perhaps most famous however, is the fire festival of Tar Bar’l.
In this New Year’s celebration, the residents see in the festivities by covering their faces in soot, dressing up in outlandish outfits – from polar bears to Donald Trump – then throwing barrels of burning tar on a bonfire and dancing the night away!
